2021

by J M Barrie, adapted by Sophie Key

Venue: The Great Hall, Farnham Maltings

Key Players’ second production was also connected to Sophie’s family history. In a production of ‘Peter Pan’ at the Scala Theatre in the West End in 1959, Wendy was played by 18 year old Patricia Garwood, and one night a star-struck young man in the audience was lucky enough to be introduced to her in the theatre bar afterwards. That is the story of how Sophie’s parents met, and was the start of over 50 happy years of marriage.

Peter Pan

This show had the challenge of being put on during the pandemic, which made it quite a ride! The show was forced to postpone three times, the company had to find new ways to work including holding all the auditions and early rehearsals on Zoom, coping with regular absences from rehearsal due to cast members being in isolation, and never knowing who might get struck down next or even whether there would be a full cast on opening night! But once the creativity started to flow, both in the rehearsal room and behind the scenes with the tireless work of designing and building sets, costumes, props, it was a great reminder that theatre has the power to unite, to heal, to entertain and to inspire.

It was fantastic, with such an amazing atmosphere..... roll on the next one.

Well done to everyone we thought it was magical and really moving. Also loved the music!!!
